I started this journey...

Because I wanted to be sure I passed my Christian faith along to my children. Growing up in the church I knew what the stereotypical “preacher’s kid” was like – so burned out by church that they didn’t want anything to do with it when they grew up. I set about to find a way, as a pastor, to pass my faith along to my two boys in a real and authentic way, without leaving them cynical about church and God.

What I discovered along the way was something that surprised me. I started out by teaching my boys to pray their own, unrehearsed, honest prayers to God at bedtime. What I realized after a while was that they were not just learning a new skill. They were coming into their own relationship with God. Not only were they learning to pray, as I had taught them, but they were really praying. And in really praying, they were turning their hearts toward God.

I realized that what I was learning about passing my faith along to my children had larger implications. I knew so many families where the parents had not affectively passed their faith along to their children. Once the children were grown it dawned on the parents that Christianity had not captured their children’s hearts. The parents at that point would have given anything to have another chance to do their job better. I realized that with a little instruction, they could have successfully passed their faith along to their children. Oh what a difference it would have made!

I began to write up what I had learned about teaching children to pray. It began as a book then morphed into an audio series. An audio series, that people can listen to in the car, while jogging, or while doing chores is the perfect vehicle to communicate a lot of material in an easy way. The series I created is almost 6 hours long, with a workbook. At the end of the series, parents will be well equipped to successfully pass the Christian faith along to their children in an easy, authentic, and natural way.

Writing and producing this series has led to a number of others. As a pastor, I recognize areas where people need help, training, and resources. I continue to develop series that teach, train, and help people understand their faith. I have studied the Bible, theology, and the Christian life for over 40 years. I believe you will find the series useful. In fact I believe they will change your life, and possibly your family’s life…forever.
